Boys and Girls Swimming Teams Fall to Kokomo in Season Opener

The boys and girls swim teams dropped their season opener to Kokomo despite strong performances all around. The girls fell by a score of 52-86 while the boys came up short 60-87. The girls team was led by Sophie Cumberland who took first in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Jana Boladeres picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and Kelzei Fox finished second in the 100 butterfly. The 200 medley relay team of Cumberland, Boladeres, Fox, and Trinity Bradley finished second. The 200 freestyle relay team of Maggie Akins, Bradley, Fox, and Laynen DeLaughter placed second, and the 400 freestyle relay team of DeLaughter, Akins, Boladeres, and Cumberland finished second as well. Cumberland anchored the 400 freestyle relay with a strong 59.9 split, eclipsing the minute barrier for the first time. On the boys side, Gabe Selleck led the way with a pair for first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Jet Thomas took first place in the 100 breaststroke and second place in the 200 IM in a close race. Evan Bennett was first in the 500 freestyle and was second in the 200 freestyle. The relay team of Bennett, Eli Garcia, Selleck, and Thomas capped off a solid first meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Also capturing second place finished for the Squires were Marcus Harlan in the 100 backstroke and the 200 medley relay team of Thomas, Kai Elliott, Selleck,and Bennett. The Squires will back in action on Tuesday, December 2nd at Pioneer.
