Varsity vs Columbia City (3 - 2) Win The Manchester girls tennis team pulled out a squeaker Wednesday April 8, with a 3-2 victory over visiting Columbia City. Senior Myla Crozier got things started with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles but the Eagles picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Ruby Martin and Tallulah Gawthrop, 6-2, 6-0.. Senior Bethany Penrod gave the Squires a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Chase Blevins lost a tough 6-3, 6-4, tying the team match at 2-2. The match came down to No. 1 doubles where the team of Lexie Nichols and Kait Schroll lost the first set in a tiebreak, 7-5, before tying the match at a set apiece with a 6-4 second set win. The third set went back and forth and eventually landed in a winner-take-all tiebreak in nearly black-dark final game. Nichols and Schroll prevailed to win the set and clinch the win for the Squires. The Squires In JV matches, the team of Lilyenne Sare and Clare D'Andrea lost, 6-1. Sare played two singles matches, losing, 6-1, and 6-2. D'Andrea and Lainey Linkenhoker lost two sets, to Columbia City. The Squires turn around Thursday, April 9, to host Huntington North at 5 p.m.
