The Manchester Lady Squires battled from start to finish Tuesday night, earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw against the Columbia City Lady Eagles in an exciting back-and-forth matchup. Both teams came out aggressive, trading attacks and battling for control early. Manchester struck first when Raimi Vawter broke free on a solo run toward goal. Vawter calmly finished the opportunity with a beautiful shot into the side netting, giving the Lady Squires a 1-0 advantage. Columbia City responded by increasing the pressure, but Manchester's defense stood strong. The Lady Squires fought off the Eagles' attacks and carried their 1-0 lead into halftime. The Eagles wasted little time responding in the second half, finding the equalizer shortly after the break to make it 1-1. Manchester, however, wasn't finished. The Lady Squires answered with another outstanding attack. Elin Betten delivered a beautiful assist to Vawter, who found the back of the net for her second goal of the night, putting Manchester back in front, 2-1. The battle continued as Columbia City pushed forward looking for another equalizer. With 13 minutes remaining, the Eagles broke through to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams continued fighting until the final whistle, but neither could find the deciding goal, ending an exciting night of soccer in a 2-2 draw. Manchester received contributions all over the field. Ava Sautter, Mackenna Bolinger, Raimi Vawter, and Asia Mardy worked hard up top, consistently creating attacking opportunities and putting pressure on the Columbia City defense. In the middle, Allie Egolf, Elin Betten, Ely Mobley, and Delaney Harshman battled for possession and helped control the pace of the game. Rachel Eberly, Hayden Krom, and Brynna Harshman provided energy and effort on the outside, helping Manchester create opportunities while also working to limit the Eagles' attack. Defensively, Kerrington Hearn, Jocelynn Young, Brooklynn Grimes, Ely Mobley, and McKayla Dillon put in a strong effort, battling throughout the match and helping keep the Lady Squires in position to earn the result. It was a complete team effort in a tough, competitive matchup as the Lady Squires showed plenty of fight for the full 80 minutes. Manchester returns to action Wednesday, August 19, when the Lady Squires travel to Mississinewa.
