Lady Squires Battle the Heat at Northwestern The Manchester Lady Squires traveled to Northwestern Tuesday night to take on the Tigers in a hard-fought matchup played in blazing 90-plus-degree heat. Despite battling from start to finish, the Squires came up short in a 2-0 loss. The game was back and forth early, with both teams creating attacks and looking for opportunities to break through. Northwestern was able to strike first and take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added another goal just before halftime, sending Manchester into the break trailing 2-0. The Squires continued to battle throughout the second half, refusing to let the heat or the deficit slow them down. Manchester created opportunities and pushed forward looking to cut into the lead, but was unable to find the finishing touch. Despite the result, the Squires showed plenty of fight and determination for the full 80 minutes. Allie Egolf, Elin Betten, Delaney Harshman, and Ely Mobley did an outstanding job in the middle of the field, possessing the ball, connecting passes, and battling to control the Tigers' attack. Rachel Eberly, Ava Sautter, Brynna Harshman, Mackenna Bolinger, and Hayden Krom worked tirelessly on the outside, making runs and helping create opportunities going forward. Aeryn Klose, Raimi Vawter, and Asia Mardy provided a strong presence up top and continued to pressure the Northwestern defense. Defensively, McKayla Dillon, Brooklynn Grimes, Kerrington Hearn, and Jocelynn Young worked hard together on the back line, limiting Northwestern's scoring opportunities and battling through the relentless heat. While the final score didn't fall Manchester's way, the Lady Squires showed toughness, effort, and determination on a challenging night. Playing 80 minutes in temperatures above 90 degrees was no easy task, but the Squires continued to compete until the final whistle.
